Barcelona February 27, 2020
Before leaving the barcelona paddock to pack and fly to Melbourne as soon as possible, Sebastian Vettel answered questions about test days, the 2020 car and his contract with Ferrari.
"The weather conditions were not ideal today. The red flag wasn't the maximum for the race pace simulation. it wasn't easy to drive with the wind.
The green track and the wind were the worst possible conditions. Today wasn't certainly the day to go on track and try to break the record. I can say that the car is better, especially in straight line. There's work to do, we are a great team and the season isn't started yet. It's difficult to say where we are now. Nobody tries something in particular (during testing), even the tyre management and the engine mode aren't the race ones. We'll see in Australia. Few days are missing to Melbourne, so I'll take some rest and we'll work with the simulator. We have tried many different set-ups and configurations.
Nobody in the testing plays his cards. Testing aren't so reliable in order to understand who is faster. We have an idea of our work and weìll understand our position after two or three races. We have tried things that have worked and things that haven't worked. For Mercedes is easier to be fast immediately. Time will tell us where we are. We're working at the maximum to erase the drag problem, but it's from here we have to start. We have to think about our job and not falling in conclusions. In every race there is the possibility to win. Better the car is, more the win possibilities are. We are Ferrari and we have always try to win. It isn't easy for us to be immediately faster, but we have to understand how to improve, exploring all the options to have a more and more competitive car".
There has been a lot of talks about Vettel's future. As iis known, the German is about to expire a contract with Ferrari.
"My contractual situation is not our main urgency. We have a lot of work to do. I'm not more worried than 3 years ago. I love to drive, when I got back in the car last week I was very excited. I'm here to win, when I signed for Ferrari I did it to become world champion but we still haven't succeeded. My priority is to put the best car on the track. The contract is not important for now. Later on, the contract will be a priority and we'll talk about it. I'm happy for Charles (regarding the renewal until 2024), the relationship is good. We are in very different moments in our careers".
