Today was not an ideal day for Sebastian, who could only complete 10 laps due to a gearbox problem. Despite a few hitches, Vettel seems to be satisfied with the team and the AMR21. During the FIA press conference he said: “The last 24 hours have been quite demanding for the whole team and also for me. Unfortunately we didn't have a very productive morning today because we had a gearbox problem. We had to change it, this cost us time and we weren't able to spend much time on the track ”.
“Yesterday was a pretty interesting day. The car looks promising, but I still have to get used to many things. The car is different from the one I was driving before and the engine is also different. I have to adapt and I haven't had much time. It is not a specific thing, but there are many small things that make a difference. We have little time left, but I hope tomorrow will be a good day to gather more information. We would like to spend more time on the track, but it will be a long season and I'm sure it will go well".
"I HAVE TO ADAPT, IT'S ALL NEW"
Joining a new team is always a delicate process. As always, this time too, Seb entered on tiptoe to better understand how Aston Martin is used to working. As the newcomer, Vettel explained that he will have to adapt to the team and the car. “We started in January and I tried to understand what the team is used to, what the procedures are, etc. Some things, like driving comfort, can be changed quickly; but there are others that take longer. It's just the beginning and I'm the one trying to take them a step further, because they had already started working on this car last year. - He added - I didn't come here to suddenly say what they have to do. They are very capable people and I am very happy to join them ”.
"It's a new environment, new people and new ways of working. This adaptation will take some time. The more time you have, the better. That's why this day and a half of testing is crucial. Then it is also true that we haven't raced since last year and it is normal that something more is needed to get back into the rhythm. We have a long year ahead of us and it is essential to adapt quickly, but in the end we will all improve by spending more time on the track. It's like that for everyone".
